resent the 31st District in the House of Delegates — walking, talking and listening. And the voices all seem to be saying, “We can do better. Let’s not forget the next generation.”
We must get on with the work of continuing to build a better elementary and secondary school system. We must continue to build on the strong college and university system we have. We must not turn back the clock on our environmental regulations. We must continue the forward thrust of the developing new high tech base in the Commonwealth. We must continue to face firmly the issues of crime.
It is as simple as that. My response: “I want to be your voice.”
That’s my promise.

Not Wards
To the Editor:
We are appalled that you would describe our children as “wards” in your editorial comment on the School Board in your Oct. 25 publication. Wards of the state, wards of the county, wards of the Snead’s — my “wards” are enrolled in the Rappahannock High School and we’re as proud as peacocks of the accomplishments of our “wards.”
Nancie, “ward” number 1, is Vice President of the SCA, an honor roll student, has lettered in track, academic and cheerleading, was the Junior class secretary, the secretary of the SCA last year and the MVP in volleyball. Becky, “ward” number 2, is President of SCA, editor of the school paper, a member <Jf the executive committee of the senior class, lettered in volleyball, has had numerous rolls in community theatre and had the lead in the school play last year. Previously, both our children were very active in the county 4-H program.
Our children, although not biologically, are our children. They are our rewards. Perhaps that’s what you meant to print — rewards. Your choice of words was hurtful to us and our children. As a candidate for the Piedmont School District, I would not treat your children as “wards,” but as your rewards.
