Last Wednesday the Rappahannock County High School Panthers hosted the Bull Run District Cross Country Championship, and both Panther teams advanced to regional level competition to take place in Charlottesville this Wednesday.
The meet, held on the Rappahannock home course behind the Bleu Rock Inn, consisted of all nine schools in the district competing. The top four teams from each division advanced to regional competition. Also, each of the top 15 finishers in each race advance to the regional meet individually if their team did not place in the top four.
Central of Woodstock successfully defended their district title in the boys’ race, edging out Brentsville 54 to 56. Rappahannock placed third in the district with 76 points. Strasburg was the last team to qualify for the regional meet, scoring 79 points. The rest of the district finished in this order: Stonewall Jackson, fifth, with a score of 112; Page County, sixth, with 128; Clarke, seventh, with 178; George Mason, eighth, with 250 and Manassas Park, ninth with 271 points.
Central’s Jason Long toqk the race with a time of 16:19, nearly repeating his course record of 16:14. Mark Jenkins was the first Panther to cross the line, running a time of 17:15 and placing fourth. Rapp runners
