To the Editor:

This is in response to Mr. • Pagano’s letter concerning Gary Settle's vision of what this county needs.

First, Mr. Pagano should be pleased that Mr. Settle took the time to come out and visit him and personally ask for his support. I am a county native and have voted for years, and in the 12 years that Mr. Woodward has been Sheriff, he has never knocked on our door to ask for support.

1 think you have to admire Mr. Settle for the hard work and dedication he has put forth for this election. This should be some evidence to what we can expect from him.

1 was very impressed with Mr. Settle’s planned approach to correct some of the problems this county has.

I would like to say 1 strongly agree with Mr. Settle this Sheriff s Office does indeed need more training and education for handling their jobs, not only for the county residents, but for their own safety.

As far as the need for more back-road patrols, there is a great need for 4iat also. 1 have lived in my community all my life and have seen many 'changes — the biggest, I think, being the number of strange vehicles that ride through our neighborhood at all times of the night. (Looking for what I don’t know). Also we have a problem with young people speeding back and forth by our house.

We live on a dead end street. People park by our house all the time partying and leaving their trash for someone else to clean up. On one occasion this summer we even heard gun shots within 500 feet for our house. The Rappahannock Sheriffs Office was called by a neighbor. She was told someone would be out. Well, they did come one hour and 20 minutes later.

I really can’t believe that Mr. Pagano could make a statement like he thought there is too much police intervention in our lives now. I can bet if he experienced some of the problems we have, he would quickly Is r
