Landscape design is an art — the art of arranging the out-of-doors to provide a maximum of enrichment and enjoyment. The key to most good art is simplicity, so a well-designed garden is often most beautiful and functional when executed in a simple manner It will be less costly and require less upkeep as well. Simplicity in garden design may be achieved by grouping plants that are alike in lines or masses that serve a definite function. A random scattering of plants creates a sense of disorganization and a lack of order and belonging.
Gardens that are over-planted, like a poorly arranged room, do not function well. Know how you will use a plant before bringing it home to avoid over-planting.
