Kathleen Maier suggested the county develop its own standards “so we’re not always trying to catch up, and run behind VDOT.”
Marc Malik said the proposed road design “is setting a new standard for the county with a 25-foot roadway width.” He said the proposed road would take out all the trees and instead recommended a project that would leave the trees on one side of the road. He said with what VDOT is proposing drivers could drive 65 mile$ per hour until they come to the 90 degree turn at the bridge at the end of the section scheduled for improvements.
Ross Hales suggested some of the money could be used to make changes in the bridge. “It’s a hazard waiting to happen,” he said.
Supervisor Chairman Hubert Gilkey agreed saying “improvements need to be made to get the water back in the river....We should request VDOT to do a different scenario on
