As I’ve said a good many times, ai good dictionary is the first tool of a writer. If you can afford two, get a college edition and an unabridged. Then you can have the pleasure of wonder- - ing about a hyphen in “baby-sit.” it ought to be babysit, babysat, babysitting, but the experts decree otherwise. I wouldn’t dis them for the world.
