Oaks of all species showed the most clusters of brown leaves. Bill Burdick of The Plains wrote that American Chestnuts on his property, planted in the early ‘70s, were definitely the tree of choice for cicadas. I was pleased to read that he has American Chestnuts and not the Chinese or Japanese species. If Bill Burdick says he has American Chestnut he most likely does; he is a careful observer.
