Now, how nice I thought, to come and speak to one of Rappahannock’s oldest citizens, out of respect, not duty, in uniform, but sincere. As it would happen neither Sally or myself had a camera.
We were now ready for our dessert. Ethel “saved” room for the cobbler, doggy bagging the remainder of her burger. Our waitress told us that the two ladies (who had now gone) who’d been sitting next to us had already paid for Ethel’s dessert! For fear of shedding a tear of joy, I swallowed hard. Can you believe it? There is still some decency left in the world.
