Hayes is pushing a preservationist platform that is highlighted by pursuing “impact fees” from developers to help offset the cost of new developments.
Katzen said he had submitted an impact fee bill twice, but it failed to generate enough support.
“Unfortunately the support was not there, but. . . it wasn’t due to any absence of effort on my part. Rather the support for impact fees is not there yet.
“I will continue to pursue that and do that gladly,” Katzen said, “but the support is not there.”
Hayes says she will refrain from running a negative campaign against Katzen.
