Rappahannock. Fauquier, and Culpeper Counties are again joining forces to present the 1997 American Cancer Society’s Relay for Lite! Call 825-0754 for information about how you can be a part of the biggest party in three counties.

The idea for this event originated in the State of Washington in 1985. A cancer surgeon and ACS volunteer. Dr. Gordon Klatt, walked or ran for 24 hours in an .effort to raise funds to fight cancer. That year he raised over $27,000 and generated a tremendous amount of community support. Since 1985 the Relay for Life has been adopted by other communities across the country as a Team Event to raise money and cancer awareness.

Each team (consisting of 8 to 12 team members) commits to raising $1,000 as their goal. The team members ask for donations from their friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives to help reach the overall team goal. Some teams achieve their goal by being sponsored by businesses or civic groups. All checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society.
