And Spend Rut

I arrived at Rappahannock County High School for the Board of Supervisors annual budget meeting last Tuesday evening at 6:50 p.m. I should have been forewarned, as I parked behind a “mini-van” plastered with well know Democratic campaign stickers, as well as a variety of: “Have you hugged a tree today” propaganda.
Those of us in attendance listened to Dr. Gangel reviewed the school systems ‘97/98 budget analysis and request for additional funding. The proposed tax increase necessary fo fund this “Request” represents a significant financial hardship to many hardworking, taxpaying citizens of Rappahannock County and is wholly unnecessary.
For example: The school sySt£m is unable to effectively teach children to read, the answer? $201,855.53 (4 percent) pay raise and $72,430.08 in remedial aide! They promise a new “Accountability” however, they will use the same failed methodology currently employed. The real answer, can you spell “Phonics”?
I was impressed at the number of attendee’s “Proud to Pay” an additional 20 percent plus in property taxes “For the children,” and was further astounded to learn that my own distaste of higher taxes really translates to a “lack of compassion”!?! Guess what? Many of the “compassionate” speakers were school board members, married to a member of, or employed by the county school system! Can you spell “Potential Beneficiary’s?”
If you are not outraged by this you should be. This is only scratching the surface. Make your voice heard, reject this nonsense! The “tax and spend” liberal mentality jn Rappahannock County must be stopped!
