contest the Rappahannock chapter brought home six trophies one first, two seconds, and three third places.

John Arnold won first place in the extemporaneous speaking contest and second in technical research and report writing contest.

The team of Jonathan Heddleston, Griffin Ward, and Adam Bouffard received third in the control technology competition. Jonathan Heddleston described the problem they had to solve.

“We had to create a telescope carriage system (TCS) that would hold the telescope securely. It had to pow-J ered electronically, have a 75 degree vertical pivot at its focus, and have a 180 degree pivot located at its center.”,

“It had to report vertical and horizontal inclinations, have five preprogrammed positions, use degree coordinate input to position the telescope, and have mouse click control of vertical and horizontal motion.”

Heddleston found the contest was difficult in many levels.

“The competition was stressful because you have a set time frame, a complex problem that involves programming and building with legos, and there are 15 teams competing with the same drive to win.”

Team members Steven Clark, Colin Nichols, and Kenny Robinson placed third in control technology Level I. Colin Nichols, Steven Clark, and Chris Beck placed third in the technology bowl oral competition, which involves a question and answer competition with a panel of judges. Steven Clark also finished second out of 66 students in the technology bowl written competition, which involves a 100 question choice test on technology and related fields.
