Mother's Day was first celebrated in a little church in Grafton, West Virginia, the town where Anna was bom. Today, many churches still recognize mothers on this special day, which may include recognizing the oldest mother, the youngest mother, and the one with the most children. Some name the “Mother of the Year,” recognizing a special mother in the church whose “helping hands” have extended beyond her own family.
