“Paul Nichols lived his life as the Lions Club motto, to serve,” said Rappahannock Lion Joe Daczewitz, friend of the late Mr. Nichols. “He served in all aspects of his life.”
The Rappahannock Lions Club celebrated its 39th year at “Charter Night” Wednesday, April 23 which was also proclaimed “Paul A. Nichols Day” in honor of Mr. Nichols, one of the club’s founders. He passed away Oct. 21, 1996.
Over 100 people. Lions members and. guests, attended the event. Club President Frank Warner, in a moving ceremony, presented a mounted and framed copy of the resolution adopted by the club to Mr. Nichols’ widow, Charlotte.
Mr. Nichols was lauded for his service to the club and his community. He served as adviser to the president, club parliamentarian, chairman of the constitution and^bylaws committee, club historian, and chairman of the 1996-97 awards committee.
He was employed by the Department of Agriculture for 30 years, was scoutmaster to several generations of county youths and had served on the county school board since 1954.
The Lions and the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors resolved that April 23 should be Paul A. Nichols Day declaring, “He left a void in the community of Rappahannock that will never be filled.”
