To the Editor:
The front-page article on the school budget public hearing that appeared in last week’s paper did a terrible job of accurately representing the nature of the hearing. To read the headline and the portion of the article that appears on page one, gives the incorrect impression that the comments were mostly negative and antibudget. On the contrary, I was there and that is not what I heard. About two-thirds of the speakers spoke positively toward the budget and the school system. While I realize that the nay-sayers were among the first to speak and their comments would appear early in the article, it is irresponsible reporting to give the impression that their comments were in the majority.
Yes, these issues are complicated and perhaps difficult to report on. But it’s not difficult to accurately portray the tone of a meeting. Anyone who was present and paying attention . knows that the tone was overwhelmingly positive and your article should have stated that fact up front.

First — I am extremely disappointed with the negative headline and tone of the lead article about the school budget public hearing in last week’s Rappahannock News. In actuality, the majority of speakers spoke.
