will begin with registration opening at 12 p.m. on Friday. May 30, at Airlie Conference Center (Airstrip). This will allow early bird campers and those with RVs to get in and set up while other participants will not arrive until later in the afternoon.
Official opening ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m., afterwhich the cancer survivors present will be honored as they'walk the first lap. Following the survivors lap, a representative from each team will take the track. As each team member completes their portion of the walk they will be replaced by another team member to keep the Relay active throughout the night.
Last year the Relay had over 30 teams participating and raised over $30,000! This year the organizers are setting their sights on 50 teams from the thrfce counties. The American Cancer Society is expecting over 500 people to be working together at Airlie. A luminaria ceremony at sundown allows the perfect opportunity to acknowledge all of those people lost to cancer, or to encourage those still battling it.
If you are a cancer survivor and want to participate in the Survivor’s Lap, or wish to purchase luminarias or form a team to raise money, or become a Corporate Sponsor, call ACS at 825-0754.
