Challenger Tony Blair’s landslide victory in Britain’s General Election, held on May Day 1997, evokes memories of Bill Clinton’s successful Presidential challenge in 1992. Much as Clinton’s election ended the “Reagan Revolution” of 1980, Blair’s victory over John Major’s Conservative (“Tory”) Party finally ended the reign of “Thatcherism” initiated by Margaret Thatcher’s election as prime minister in 1979.
