Learn the basics and advanced techniques of portrait painting from master artist and experienced portrait Ned Bittinger. Ned will conduct a portrait painting workshop designed to teach the fundamentals and techniques of portrait painting on May 23-28.
The format will include instruction on posing and lighting the subject, achieving a likeness thru measuring using lengths and angles, and evaluating color tones. Optimum to the success of a portrait is the ability to paint lifelike color, to this extent full analysis of color will be presented to instruct the student. Oil painters will paint wet into wet, “a la prima” style, while pastelists will learn point, broadside, blending, open stroke, and layering techniques.
The workshop is open to all levels of painting from beginner through working professional. Familiarity with the medium is recommended.
Ned, studied at The Corcoran School of Art; received his B.F.A. from Denison University, Ohio; and an M.F.A. from George Washington University, Washington, D C. He studied portraiture with Daniel Green and John Howard Sanden and has been a professional artist for over 22 years. He has done portraits of Secretaries of State James Baker and Lawrence Eagleburger, Shirley MacLaine and individuals in the business, educational, and private communities and he has illustrated three children’s books. This is the first time he has agreed to do this workshop.
