Plant a Row for the Hungry is a program whose underlying concept is very’ simple — share your garden with someone in need who otherwise might not have fresh produce at all. The program was originated by the Garden Writer’s Association of America only two years ago, and in some areas has resulted in delivering literally tons of fresh produce to those in need. It is something that most gardeners do instinctively, as we share excess produce informally across the back fence with neighbors.
Master Gardeners and others in the four-county area of Madisdn, Culpeper, Orange, and Rappahannock counties recently in Culpeper to discuss approaches to this program that would build on this informal sharing to meet nutritional needs in our community.
