When asked how she came to write her piece, “Wherever You Start, It’s the Middle of Your Story,” Sallie Morgan said: “Through Julie Portman’s autobiography workshop, I became fascinated with the complex family relationships that help shape who we are and who we become. Julie helped us learn how to use memories and images as doorways through which we see experiences and relationships afresh. The stories we shared in our workshop were so powerful that the eight of us participants continue to write and to get together every three weeks to share our new pieces.”
Jean Falk’s story, “Rainbow Bridges,” is about the mystical relationship between herself and her grandmother, Winnie, and the amazing symbols that prophesied her grandmother’s death.
“I think I wanted to take Julie’s workshop to get a different and broader view of my life. Julie’s workshop was a transformational experience and inspired us to think about creating our lives, with an emphasis on “creating,” that was very useful to me. I’m looking forward to narrating my work and perhaps doing more of this in the future.”
