On Saturday, May 18 at 8 p.m., Ki Theatre and RAAC will collaborate in presenting an evening of powerful autobiographical stories, written and narrated by the authors themselves. The program, “No Ordinary Person,” offers the unusual opportunity for the audience to hear Joyce Abell, Jean Falk and Sallie Morgan perform works about their own lives and the lives of their family members.
As they share their funny, bruising, heartwarming moments from childhood to old age with us, we come to see how unique each person’s life is, yet find ourselves realizing how much these experiences we are watching on stage evoke similar memories of our own lives.
In addition to the three narrators, the program will also include the composer-musician Mark Torgeson on stage with the performers, weaving his own compositions into each of the three stories as they are told.
“Our program has been a joyous coming together and we’ve inspired each other. It all began when Sallie, Jean and I took Julie Portman’s wonderful “Creating My Autobiography” workshop series last year,” said Joyce Abell.
“Each of us had a different reason for taking her workshop — mine was to leave some history for may son and grandchildren — but all three of us wound up being inspired to present at least one of our works for the stage. Without even knowing what the other had chosen, we each came up with a piece about a time in our lives when our grandparents were, in one way or another, important to us.
