Mr. Wood attended schools in Jan Lew, W.Va., Sinnston, W.Va., and business school in Clarksburg, W.Va.
He worked 41 years for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Pa., Rouses Point, N.Y., and Staten Island, N.Y.
He retired as an Immigration Attache in the American Embassy in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Upon retirement, he moved to North Kingstown, R.I. and then.to Culpeper.
Mr. Wood was very active in church and the community wherever he lived.
He was a member of the Champlain Masonic, Lodge No. 237, AARP, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the Culpeper United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances Bailey Wood; one son, Bruce W. Wood of Wheaton, Md. and three daughters, Wendy W. Tyson of Casper, Wyo., Susan Cenci of Minoa, N.Y. and Janet W. Long of Boston.
Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Cindy L. Barrus, Tanya N. Tyson, Christopher J. Cenci and Tarra D. Tyson and one brother, William Wood of Chatham, Mass.
Graveside services were held in Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson, Mass.

Charles Eldred Sr.
Charles Joseph Eldred Sr., 57, of Washington died on Thursday, May 8 at his residence.
He was bom Aug. 7, 1939 in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Eldred was a 1961 graduate of Virginia Tech and a member of its Highty-Tighties.
He was a member of the Washington Architectural Review Board and the owner of Washington House Reproductions.
He was the co-founder of Mrs. Coxe’s Tavern.
He is survived by his wife, Frances "Qv. Eldred of Washington; his mother, Veeve L. Eldred of The Hermitage of Northern Virginia; two daughters, Davida A. Parker of Chesepeake and Chaundra L. Hoffman of Washington; a son, Charles J. Eldred Jr. of Amissville; a brother, Robert D. Eldred of Ibnawanda, N.Y. and three grandchildren, Kimberly Parker, Kasey Parker and Jessica Hoffman.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 10 with the Rev. Jennings W. Hobson III officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Rapidan or the Washington Volunteer Fire Department or Rescue Squad.
