Another typically Rappahannock celebration of old fashioned community spirit happens this Saturday, April 25, at the Flint Hill fire hall with a silent auction, dinner and dance to benefit Sharon Nicholson.
Nicholson is battling cancer, and without insurance, her medical expenses are overwhelming. She is beginning a second round of treatments, which includes a new drug now in clinical trials at the National Institutes of Health. Proceeds from the fund raiser will go towards those medical bills.
The auction boasts an intriguing collection of services, treasures and treats. Up for bid are dinners at favorite local restaurants, stays at bed and breakfast inns, original art by some of the county’s finest artists and a collection of retired Beanie Babies. You can take home smoked chicken and
agreed that it was important and worth looking into, but federal funding for work outside the park boundaries was extremely limited.
Moore said he expected to “find out more about ISTEA legislation later this year,” and supported submitting funding requests for a tourist information center and other community enhancements.
He also commented on modifications to the rightturn lane plan, speed limits and truck traffic in Sperryville, bridge modifications, and other possible road improvements to improve drainage and eliminate flooding in the historic district.
The council, which is a separate entity from the Sperryville Historic Society, meets the third Thursday of every month.
