Of Creole extraction, Kera was born in Madagascar and grew up in Senegal, Africa. She moved to Paris and bean her professional career singing blues and gospel. A stint in Los Angeles exposed her to other music that is part of the African tradition. She moved to Berlin and got together with Russell and Katemann.

Katemann was actually born in Germany. A student of classical piano, horn, trombone, and tuba, Katemann is also a composer, sound programmer, piano tuner and creator of microtuning scales for sythensizers. Even before meeting up with Russell and Kera, he had an interest in African music and rhythms.
