The Baker’s neighbor in Chester Gap, Greg Hutcheson, saw Weakley on the property and in the process of taking the trees. He went over, questioned Weakley, who said he had made an agreement to purchase the trees. Hutcheson called the Bakers to check it out with them and they told him no one had permission to take the trees. He then called the Rappahannock SherifFs Office.
Hutcheson informed Weakley that the sheriffs office had been called and that apparently a mistake had been made. Weakley left before Maj. Rick MacWelch, who has since left the office to become a sheriff elsewhere, arrived at the scene. Weakley said he saw no reason to stay since there had obviously been a misunderstanding
