The remodeling has been expensive, costing more than the projected estimate. Martin said the biggest challenge during the renovation was complying with the Americans with Disability Act. That required the bathrooms to be remodeled and handrails to be added. He said that other reasons for high costs were meeting fire code regulations and improving the electrical and lighting systems.
Martin’s goal is to open a new room each week until the ground floor is fully occupied. Three former classrooms on the ground floor will be used to display Christmas crafts, dining and wedding gifts including Virginian food and wine, and children’s toys, games, stuffed animals, books and clothing.
Eileen Grady, former owner of Country Elegance in Front Royal, joined Barbara Gore as a store manager. Grady said the store offers five times more space than the previous store did, expanding the fashion section and increasing the selection of other items. The store’s goal is to stock all of the catalog items, and since the store is an outlet, overstocked items from the catalog are sold at considerable savings.
The new Quick Order Processing computer system allows' catalog orders to be returned or exchanged at the store. If a catalog item is not available at the store, it will be shipped from the distribution center free of charge with same day processing, Grady said.
The location is drawing people who never even knew a Faith Mountain Store existed in Sperryville. Everyday the number of shoppers has • increased and by the end of last week five times more sales were registered than at the old store which is only "a block away.
