Country benefit auction set

Mountain Laurel Montessori School in Front Royal will conduct its third annual country auction starting at 11 a.m. On April 26 at its co-sponsor Oasis Winery in Hume. Light fare will be provided by the Harvest Cafe in Front Royal. Both a silent and exciting live auction offers gift certificates, professional services, entertainment and getaways from area businesses. For more information or to obtain a catalog call 635-9125.

Black Musical Heritage set

RAAC will be presenting a concert by the Black Heritage Orchestra from Berlin, Germany starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 8 at The Theatre in Washington. Blending elements of traditional jazz and modem rhythm and blues with African music, salsa, gospel, reggae, funk and rap, the group includes guitarist Mike Russell, vocalist MFA Kera, keyboardist and arranger Reinhard Katemann and drummer Eric Lewis.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and may be reserved by calling RAAC at 675-3193 or may be purchased at Mountainside Market in Sperryville or Culpeper Music Center on Main Street in Culpeper.

Farmer's Market meeting set

An organizational meeting for the Rappahannock Farmer’s Market will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 at the Rappahannock Library. For more information call Debbie Settle at 675-3868.

Auxiliary, fire department activities

The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department is seeking contestants for Honorary Fire Queen of their annual firemen’s carnival, June 3, 4, 5 and 6. Individuals nine to 18 years of age that are interested in running should contact Greg or Teresa at 987-9204.

The newly organized Sperryville Fire' Department Auxiliary is opening its membership to any individuals of the community interested in joining. The auxiliary’s regular meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the meeting room of the Sperryville fire hall. Interested individuals can either come to the next meeting or contact Michelle at 987-9440 or Teresa at 987-9024.

The Sperryville Fire Department Auxiliary is seeking help with the cooking booth at the annual firemen’s carnival June 3-6. Individuals are needed to help with preparation, grilling and serving each night. The auxiliary will also gladly appreciate any donated baked goods for sale as well.
