Captive People,” will include the following elements:
1. Step: Students will learn to “step” or to combine the precise movements of military drill and the fluid rhythms of dance. The best part is that they will be learning to step from other students, members of the Liberty High School Step Team will be their teachers.
2. Song: Students will learn lively Spirituals and Gospel songs which will go along with the stepping.
3. Public Speaking: Some students will be reciting the words of slaves which will add to the depth and emotion of each song.
4. Enrichment: An African American studies teacher from a neighboring county will be providing excellent programs during 30 minute rehearsal breaks.
Rehearsals for “Heart-Cries” will be each Tuesday and Wednesday morning between June 22 and July 14 and performances will be the week of July 19. School bus transportation will be provided to and from rehearsals.
