The county is not yet in crisis, Catron told the assemblage, “but development is taking place and we want to control and manage the development.... The county is experiencing a loss of agricultural land at a rate similar to other parts of the country. The focus of the Alliance is to preserve particularly sensitive lands, not to lock up all land in the county. The organization will use all available tools to protect the land,” Catron explained, “but the focus will be on permanent protection, conservation easements.”
