solicitations
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Commerce (VDACS) has recently issued a public warning that solicitors have been calling businesses to demand payment for advertising that the businesses never requested or approved.
In addition to attempts to collect for unauthorized advertising, they also attempt to sell ad space to businesses. Some • businesses have assumed that, because of the magazine titles, there was a connection and benefit to charitable law enforcement organizations or local law enforcement agencies.
Rappahannock County Sheriff Larry Sherertz said tjiat a lady in Woodville recently received one such call. Using caller ID, she traced the call to Florida. Sherertz added that these solicitors prey on unsuspecting citizens, and that this happens about once a year. He stressed that people should exercise caution when contacted by a phone solicitor.
