Jeff Chambers, representing Hayes Large Architects, discussed plans for the Rappahannock County High School addition last Thursday evening.
He was heard by an audience consisting of fewer members of the taxpaying public-at-large than school officials.
Chambers provided graphic and •verbal descriptions of nigh school plans and athletic field improvements. He touched on construction schedules, and responded to the few questions asked from the audience.
Chambers noted that the site survey has been completed, and so the final RCHS footprint is in hand.
He described the extended bus loop and pointed out the new faculty and student parking lots, and discussed the classroom layout and the conversion of the baseball .field to a physical education field complex.
The current economic climate is such that “school construction bids are coming in all over the place,” said Chambers.
In preparing construction bid documents, Hayes Large is taking full advantage of alternate bid options to provide flexibility so that the project can be brought in within budget.
Each new classroom, for example, is designed with a folding wall svstem that can be used to divide the space, but if the bids are too high, an alternative bid is requested that eliminates the internal folding wall but retains the mounting structure.
