2. Be aware. Work zones are not the best spot to use your cell phone, read a map, or change the CD. That can wait. 3. Be wary. Leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you. Remember the “two-second” driving rule, two seconds is the safe following distance you should maintain from the car in front of you. 4. Be prepared. Expect delays. Plan for them and leave early to give yourself plenty of time. 5. Be smart. Merge as soon as possible. Studies have shown that the traffic flow and posted speeds improve when motorist merge early. And remember, highway workers are out in traffic on a daily basis, working hard to improve your roadways. They’re not there to get in your way.
