Rappahannock County Conservation Alliance will meet on Tuesday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington fire hall. The organization’s mission statement will be discussed, and the Committee on RCCA Structure and the Education/Outreach Committee will make progress reports.
Awards, picnic set
for TFR volunteers
The Organizing Committee of Trash Free Rappahannock 1999 invites all participants and supporters of this year’s TFR Program and their families to an awards picnic on Saturday, May 22 at the home of John Kiser at the end of Popham’s Ford Road off Route 707 between Route 231 and 522 from 4 p.m. into the evening. Food will be provided. Swimsuits welcome. Call 9878445.
Garden Club to
offer scholarship
The Rappahannock County Garden Club will once again offer the Francis J. Leonard Memorial Scholarship to a senior in Rappahannock County for the purpose of continuing his or her education.
A grant of $1500 will be awarded to a student enrolling in a four year college or university. $1,000 will be given the first year with $500 in the second year.
An applicant must be a resident of Rappahannock County, a member of this year’s graduating class (home-schooled or other schools), be accepted at an accredited four year school, have a need for financial assistance and be recommended by three non-relative residents of Rappahannock County. Applications for the grant are available at the guidance department of the Rappahannock County High school or from Mrs. H.B. Wood, 987-8886. The deadline for returning the applications is May 24, 1999.
