The Spitfire is a small British sports car built from 1962-80 at a plant in Coventry. The entire 19-year production run for all Spitfire models was about 314,000, and a large number were exported to America.
There are a few Spitfires in Fauquier County. Lee District Supervisor Dave Mangum of Opal has one (it’s for sale), and Stephen Roszel Jr., who lives out near the Free State, is working on one for his high school-age son.
My first Spitfire was a decent lowmileage ‘64, with a detachable steel hardtop, soft top and tonneau cover. I bought it from'Johnny Rigg at Keith N. Fletcher Pontiac in 1969.
