Phil Irwin *
Home: Flint Hill
Occupation: Retired from Voice of America in 1985; Now runs Caledonia Farm -1812, which he says is the only nationally registered historic landmark Bedand-Breakfast in Rappahannock County.
Accomplishments - Phil Irwin has always been active in conservation causes, having served on the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection and Piedmont Environmental Council (he was a co-founder of both organizations). In 1973, he put his farm under a scenic easement to the Virginia Outdoors Federation - the first easement granted in the county and one of the first in the state.
Mr. Irwin was Associate Director of the Northern Virginia 4-H Center near Front Royal for approximately four years, and served on the Building Committee that is responsible for their conference center. He is a co-founder and member of the Rappahannock Bed-andBreakfast Guild, and a member of the Bed-and-Breakfast Association of Virginia. Hwalso takes an active Interest in promoting tourism and preserving the scenic beauty and rural nature of the county.
