Family life
education review
RCES Principal Raye Tupper reported on progress in establishing a committee to review the school system’s family life education curriculum. The first priorities, Mrs. Tupper said, would be to identify a chairperson, who could be neutral, to guide the review process, and to establish a small core committee that represents a cross-section of the community. This group will determine the level of community involvement required in the process, and should include some of the members of the committee that helped create the original curriculum in 1994. The full committee will review each element of the curriculum, and determine if adjustments need to be made. Mrs. Tupper will serve as the schools’ contact person and coordinator of the effort until a chairperson is selected.
International
Baccalaureate
inservice program
Board member Rosa Crocker reported on progress on establishing an International Baccalaureate inservice program. She noted that she is working with Assistant Superintendent Mary Ann Bigges, and hopes to have something set up soon after school ends this year. Jay Matthews of the Washington Post and members of the Clark County School System, that has an International Baccalaureate program, have expressed their willingness to participate in a discussion.
