A Rappahannock County grand jury handed down indictments for three individuals on term day, May 10.
• Brenda Lee Fugatt of Front Royal was indicted on one count of possession of PCP. She was arrested in December, 1998.
Fugatt was released on a $3000 personal recognizance bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on June 3.
• Dennis C. Woodward of Amissville was indicted separate charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, and failure to return a vehicle.
The offenses occurred on September 15, 1998 and February 16, 1999.
Woodward was released on a $3000 personal recognizance bond for the failure to return charge, and an existing bond on the unauthorized use charge was continued. He has a June 3 court date.
• The grand jury indicted David H. Determan of Locust Grove on five different charges: trespassing, trespassing after having been forbidden to do so; and three counts of larceny.
Judge Carleton Penn ordered a $1000 personal recognizance bond on each of the trespassing charges, and continued existing bonds on each of the larceny charges. Determan’s court date is set for June 3.

Sentences handed down
by Circuit Court
• Edward Garfield Burke, III of Stanley, received a five year suspended sentence for a guilty plea on a charge of manufacturing marijuana.
Burke was arrested last year on Labor Day weekend after an undercover officer discovered that Burke was growing marijuana plants in northern Rappahannock County.
The suspension of sentence is contingent upon Burke submitting to periodic and unannounced drug testing. His driver’s license was also suspended for six months.
• Jesse Earl Pond III of Sperryville was sentenced after pleading guilty to drinking while operating a motor vehicle and possession of cocaine. Both incidents occurred in September, 1998.
