Scott McBride to

discuss new book

Scott McBride, a master craftsman and author who lives in Sperryville will discuss and sign copies of his new book, Landscaping with Wood, at the Old Sperryville Bookshop on Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. The book is a well-illustrated practical guide to building outdoors, with specific, how-to information on constructing raised garden beds, retaining walls, fences, trellises, arbors and other outdoor projects. Published this year by Taunton Press, the book sells for $19.95. The author will discuss his book and answer questions on outdoor building projects at the book shop, which is located at 44 Main Street, across from the post office, in the historic village of Sperryville. Lion’s Club annual

auction Saturday

The Rappahannock Lion’s Club annual auction will be held Saturday, May 15 at 6 p.m. at the Washington Volunteer fire hall. There will be certificates and merchandise from many local businesses. Many donations from private collections and estates have been made. Bill Payne will be conducting the auction.

Hearthstone Hoot

at the Blue Moon

Hearthstone School will host a “Hoot” featuring local acoustic performers including David Blanchard, Lisa Leftwich, Frank Stockton, Rafael Lorenzo, Brian Ross, George Rosenbaum and Warren Phinney.”Almost Avalon” from Front Royal will also play. The event will be held at the Blue Moon Cafe at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 16. A $5 admission charge will benefit the school.
