• Michele Renee Dodson of Flint Hill received a 12 month suspended sentence for possession of cocaine.

As a condition of the suspension of sentence, she must maintain employment, receive substance abuse counseling, and attend Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

She pleaded guilty after being arrested in August, 1998, after being found in possession of a small amount of cocaine.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke thought that jail time was inappropriate because she has no criminal record. He also noted that she had been drug-free for over 10 years until the latest incident.

• Judge Penn sentenced Jerry William Cloniger Sr. of Castleton to five years in jail for driving after having been declared an habitual offender.

Cloniger pleaded guilty after being arrested on November 16, 1998.

On June 21, Cloniger may enroll in a diversion program in Harrisonburg. This program provides substance abuse rehabilitation and job placement assistance, and ensures compliance with the terms of probation.
