Preserve history
National Historic Week, a time to
remember where we have been.
This is also Historic Preservation Week. It is a
time to reflect on our past, and to think of ways
to appreciate and protect our heritage. Even as we struggle through our day-to-day hustle-and-bustle, we should be even more mindful of that heritage in Rappahannock County. And this applies to native and newcomer alike.
Tourism is a big part of our county’s economy. The mountains and scenery do attract many tourists, but how much would tourism be impacted if Washington, Sperryville, Flint Hill and other locations in the county didn’t maintain their historical, rural look and feel?
Even if we didn’t have a big interest in history, it would be important for our citizens to remember their own heritage.
It’s hard to know where you’re going if you don’t know where you came from. Historical preservation is an important part of our character, something to consider, and cherish, every day.
