As it did in the 1996 and 2000 presidential elections, Rappahannock County closed out the 2004 vote with a Republican majority once again.
President George W. Bush, who won reelection, took Rappahannock with nearly 54 percent of the votes cast on Tuesday. John Kerry, a fourterm Massachusetts senator, stayed close, with 45 percent.
In the 2000 race, Bush took Rappahannock with nearly the same percentage, almost 53 percent. That year, A1 Gore brought in 41 percent of the Rappahannock vote.
Of the six precincts in Rappahannock, three voted Republican in the 2004 election (Amissville, Chester Gap and Scrabble) and three Democratic (Washington, Sperryville and Flint Hill). Flint Hill, however, had only a three-vote difference.
