In addition to Rappahannock, nearby Culpeper, Fauquier, and Madison counties went Republican as well, although by a slightly larger margin. Bush took Culpeper with 64 percent of the vote; Fauquier with 64 percent of the vote, and Madison with nearly 62 percent.
Madison and Culpeper counties, much like Rappahannock, also voted overwhelmingly to keep Republican Congressman Eric Cantor in office representing the seventh congressional district. Cantor came away with nearly 76 percent of the vote in Madison and nearly 80 percent in Culpeper.
