"There are ‘theories’ that it (access to sewer line) can be limited, but we don’t have a complete answer,” Washington town attorney John Bennett said.
Mayor Leggett noted that “the fact that you’ve got the line means that it can be enlarged.”
Getting permission from Y'DOT to run the lines down the medial of Route 522 is another issue the mayor noted.
“Without cooperation from YT)OT, that puts you on the side, of the road on private property,” Mayor Leggett said.
Potential odors?
Some members of the public and the council expressed concern about odors should a new wastewater treatment plant be built. Many cited the experience of driving through Warrenton on a hot summer day.
White said a wastewater treatment plant for Washington wouldn’t have that smell, just like Sperryville doesn’t.
“We toured the Sperryville plant and it does not smell,” council member Claudia Mitchell said. “We were right on top of it, on the catwalk. It looks like it should smell, but it doesn’t.”
