As Mayor Leggett and White both noted, the Sperryville plant will have to be upgraded to comply with the Chesapeake Bay Agreement standards which are still in the process of being determined.
"The Sperryville plant doesn’t meet the coming standards,” Mayor Leggett said. "That plant will have to be updated anyway."
As the project is still in the concept phase, what actual costs might have to be shared by the towns of Washington and Sperryville were not yet determined.
Opening
development?
That the Rappahannock County schools could be hooked into this system is an advantage, but the main concern of the council and members of the public was that a sewer line down Route 522 to Sperryville would open up an already attractive corridor to development.
“Is there any way to prevent developers from tapping into the sewer system,” Benson asked.
White said that was a legal question he couldn’t answer.
