kerosene, gas or had a Delco System. We are all familiar with kerosene, but less familiar with the other two. There was no natural gas in this county so those who wished the improved lighting of gas needed to make their own.
If you look around the county you can still find some of the concrete “bunkers” where the gas was made. These “bunkers” were usually built into a hill near the building where the gas was to be used or in some cases where no hill was available they were covered with dirt. The Delco System was a system of batteries that acted as the “power plant” from which wiring was run.
