Goodness knows, we needed some rain, but I think we have now received our allotment for June, July and August. Our garden was getting awfully dry. We had enjoyed some crook neck squash with new onions and nice cabbage and a few early potatoes, and one little red tomato. But, before the rain started, the com had curled up tighter than Dick’s hat band, as Mom used to say.
When I was a young man, I could almost make it rain, by washing my car. This time, it took a bit more effort, but I think I can take at least partial credit. With the garden drying to dust, my brother gave me a gasoline powered water pump, and my brotherin-law came up with two plastic barrels.
I installed a petcock in the bottom of each barrel so I could hook up a garden hose, and I was ready to go to the river for 100 gallons of water for my parched vegetables, and Linda’s flower garden. That night, we got over a half inch of rain, and it has rained every day since. What more can I say?
