At the weekend’s American Horse Publications’ seminar and awards in Orlando, Fla., the Fauquier Times-Democrat — the only “regular” newspaper represented in the international news organization, came away with top prizes in photo and overall general excellence categories.

Times-Democrat Horse and Field Sports editor Betsy Parker won first prize in the black and white photo division for her “Racing for the rest of us” photo from the North American Point-toPoint Association championships at Leesburg’s Morven Park.

Judges raved: “Superior photograph. Joy and elation radiate from the page. All elements: perfect timing, camera position, lighting combine to capture the moment. Excellent focus, good tonal range and rich flow of raw motion make this a top-notch image, the composition and rhythm of the human faces balance with the strength and dignity of the horses.”
