TERMS Grieving the loss of a loved one is a difficult task, regardless of age, but it may be ever more so difficult for a child. In some cases, children i may experience a stigma ! associated with death, as expressed by peers who perceive them as different. Otherwise children may not
| be told the truth about death i itself or the circumstances surrounding the death of a loved one. These examples illustrate the need to be sensitive to children’s needs in time of personal crisis. Many times, parents can get their cues from children themselves, by listening and eliciting their questions. Like adults, children value honesty and can gain some comfort from the fact that they are being treated with integrity.
