Bank Road
The higher taxes were also partly caused a three cent tax rate increase “to sequester to build funds for the Bank Road office project costs” according to McCarthy’s cover sheet for the first draft of the 2007 budget. The Bank road office project is part of the county’s plans to begin construction of new county offices on a 1.8 acre lot behind the Rappahannock National Bank on US-211. The BOS purchased the land in March for future county office buildings expected to cost almost two million dollars. According to the BOS the purpose of the new offices is to save taxpayer money in the long term, since many county offices currently rent space in Washington. Along with new offices on Bank Road, the county has purchased four acres of land in Washington adjacent to Avon Hall at a cost of $400,000, which twill eventually also be used for offices.
