During skate breaks, the boys pour over well worn ramp catalogs and skating magazines, gazing at the professional equipment.
“Basically we want a park that is very similar to a street,” said Espinola, “curbs, steps, rails, and walls.”
“First though we need some sort of surfacing to make the asphalt smoother,” Will reminded his team.
The patch of asphalt was funded by a previous fundraiser/donation drive by citizens.
They created the paved area for a previous generation of skateboarders who had been skating in Washington and getting into trouble.
County Administrator John McCarthy has informed Mullany that there is no money budgeted for further development and maintenance of the skate park.
Ramps and grind rails were part of the original park but they have since deteriorated. After Will wrote a letter complaining about the current condition of the park, the dilapidated equipment was removed. Now all that remains is the asphalt.
